Letting go!

I really needed a break not the perpetual break all of us want but 'all hell will break loose' break. A couple of chat sessions about boring and stagnant life, and my bitches decided it was time to breath some cold Darjeeling air. The organizer in me took care of the train tickets but it was time to let go on planning for the rest. I trusted somebody I would never trust on a sound plan for. It was time for a trip longer than just a weekend.

A week before the trip we aren't sure if it is going to happen because yet another state decided to go two. Needless to say it was the one we were heading to. God dammit why!!! We panicked, we sulked and then we decided. Decided to go where ever the political situation signals the train to go to. News suddenly for me had become quite an important deal.

Just like Vaishno Devi calls for her devotees, Darjeeling called out to us. The week we wanted to relax in the hills was the week the bandh was relaxed for. Ruchi's snacks, weird pics, snakes & ladder, magic slate, & a live bong saas-bahu kahani just like how Ekta narrates them helped us get through the ridiculously long train journey.

At Siliguri, my pashmina was out, half way through to Darjeeling my socks were out, and foggy breath while we heartily laughed about dragging our suitcases back and forth marked our arrival finally at the place a first timer, a second timer, and a long time visitor were eagerly waiting to get to.

Hotel Belle Vue had an awesome view which was for most of our trip blocked by the heavy clouds. A narrow corridor that led us to a backyard/a narrow way into the streets. My non-snoozable mental alarm would ring in the mornings and drag me out to the backyard to take in as much as I could of the majestic green & brown in spite of the heavy fog.

After a couple of days of eating, shopping, and walking around, my only regret was to not be able to see "The" peak. Our last morning in Darjeeling, I did the usual walk to our backyard and as she opened the bright green grill door for me I was saying to myself 'peak or no peak it was an awesome trip' just to turn around as I stepped out into the sun and noticed the gigantic white mass. Our trip was done like a bun!

The last view point that our cabbie took us to was near the Batasia loop. A panaromic view of huge masses of snow. There are times when nature wants you scream out loud to say how beautiful she is but all you can do is just go dumb and sigh silently and feel like a nothing standing there staring back at her. This was our breathtaking moment.

It was time to move on to redeem my first impressions of the city of joy! My personal favorite moment in this city was when we hopped on to a local bus on the spur of the moment. As I settled down in my seat, the old bus stereo was singing "main zindagi ka saath nibhaata chala gaya" Indeed!

Hey Lady Boy!

One night in Bangkok makes a hard man humble Two nights makes a woman go crazy shopping. Can't be too careful with your company I can feel the lady boy walking next to me. Bangkok, oriental setting yet gives you an Indian feeling And the girls don't know what the girls are getting Time flies, doesn't seem a minute Since the Tuk Tuk boys had us girls in it All gems, didn't know that when we climbed in it One night in Chatuchak and the oyster's yours! The bars are temples and holy is the shopping spree You'll find a something in every shopping cloister And if the men are lucky then he's actually a she oh wait... it doesn't matter to me! It's a drag, it's a bore, it's really such a pity To not stay long enough looking at the city! 4 girls, warm and sweet, warm, sweet We were set up in the Ananthara Suite! Last night in Bangkok was malibu by the pool side and dancing in the balcony 'til the night died.

The Verdict

If you looked at the title and think I am going to give my point of view just like the other million self appointed critiques then I am sorry to disappoint you but what I went through today is a kin to the never-ending saga. My mornings are pretty much the same everyday. I get in to the cab groggy eyed either in gym clothes or something equally worse. My cab driver continues to go on a snake like path on the straight roads, and I am listening to MS's venkateshwara suprabhatam simply cause it sounds peaceful to me. Just watching everybody on the road going about their daily business, I suddenly see a teenager walking with a big orange flag with 'Om' symbols that he was lightly waving . Om by definition manifests aspects of God. Unfortunately, for me that scene was a manifestation of 'will break out anytime riot.' For a minute my body is still, my eyes searching for more clues, and my mind searching for dates of religious importance and lo, I realize the boy was proba...
